Nothing Exciting to update!

Basically work has been pretty much the same although it was once again obvious that when Anitta is at work things go wrong. But other than that the park was busy because it was the bank holiday weekend. There were 17,000 people in the park on sunday. But today is my day off and i'm going to meet my friends from cambridge at thorpe park.

Hungover!

Well first during the day I met up with Rowena in London and we went to madame tussuads. Even though I had been a few weeks ago they had some new waxworks of Keira Knightly and Leonardo Dicaprio. Thet had also moved some of them around. After that we went to Chinatown for lunch and then we went to Oxford street.

So last night me, Nicole and Dhara went to Staines for the night. I was a great night even though Dhara was so late. We drank so much though which meant that at work today I was so hungover. Lucky Nicole had the day off but me and Dhara had to work. It was a bit of slow day because we felt so horrible. The excitment of the day was when we found a lost child and had to take them to the medical centre. Dhara was a bit anxious though because we were carrying money. Anyway hopefully the kid found his family. Apparently they kept sending messages out on the radio looking for him.

Getting everything sorted again!

So sunday and monday I sorted out everything I needed to send to Yummy jobs. I had to send everything by special delivery again which cost lots. But at least now its sorted. Also on monday I talked to Jessica from the Arcadia Group because I sent in an application for their graduate program in distribution. I did actually send the application in by accident so it's not very good. Anyway I have an interview on the 12th September. And last night I took the online test which I don't think went very well. I don't really mind though because I don't think I'll get the job and I don't mind.

Work has still been pretty slow because of the weather. But on monday night everyone at work went into the park for the evening. We went on loggers leap first and Nicole was supposed to go in the front but then when we got there she sat in the back so Karen wasn't very happy. Then we went on a few more rides before going on Tidal Wave. Big mistake! Me and Nicole got soaked and since the weather wasn't great we were cold. Then we went to the Glasshouse for some food. The food was good and then we went on some of the games in the arcade before going home.

So today I got an email from Yummy jobs giving some useful facts about America and Florida. Also some information about visas, flights and insurance.

Little update!

So this week i've been working and I don't think much has really happened. It's been pretty quiet because the weather hasn't been so good. Anitta has been annoying everyone as usual.

On tuesday I had the day off and then in the evening I went out in Richmond with my housemates. We ate at Pizzeria Rustica which was alright. It's a nice little place but the food was pretty average. We managed to get through 4 bottles of wine although that was mainly because Jessie ordered another 2 possibly by accident. This meant that the bill was really huge. Overall it was a good night but Jessie got really drunk.

Yesterday I got an email from Yummy jobs saying that they had lost my forms so I need to send them again. I can't believe it. Very annoying. So now I am filling out the forms again and am supposed to fax them to yummy jobs. But not having a fax machine available makes this a bit difficult.

Also yesterday I accidentally applied for a job at Arcadia in Distribution and the woman has been trying to contact me. I'm so suprised since I didn't even attach the right covering letter. But I think I will ring her back anyway and see.

Thorpe Park Visit!

So yesterday on my way out of work I finally got my dream ticket. This means that I can get into the Tussauds Group attractions for free. I get 20 tickets although I doubt I will use them in the month I have left working there.

Today I went to Thorpe Park with John and Jemma. We got there at about 11am and it was pretty busy. There was a big queue to get in but I saw Penny who works in admissions and she said that with the dream ticket you just go up to the gate and they will let you in. So that was cool. We went on Nemesis, Colossus and Stealth. It was the first time that I'd been on Stealth and it was so much fun. Unfortunately Jemma isn't a fan of rollercoasters and rides so she sat reading a book for a lot of the time. But we managed to get her on the rumba rapids. So at about 5pm we decided to leave mainly because Jemma was tired. But thats nothing unusual. The park was pretty busy but it was a fun day.

Visa Appointment Booked!

So I got an email from yummy jobs saying that I should book my visa appointment. So I rang up the embassy and now have my appointment on 18th September at 2pm. There are a couple of people from the program going at this time as well. So hopefully I will be able to meet up with them and the 4 hours wait won't be so bad. It's so exciting that everything is finally getting sorted.

Work at Thorpe Park is going well. There haven't been any major problems so thats really nice. The park has been fairly busy and we've been doing cash lifts which are nice because it's good to get out of the office into the sun. However today I did cash lifts with Anitta which was not fun. She doesn't know her way around the park and when it comes to doing the actual cash lifts she was all over the place leaving the bag open on the side. Also today I had my review with Karen and she was really nice. Now I have handed in my form for my dream ticket and will hopefully get it tomorrow so that I can use it on monday.

UCF courses!

Today I got an email from disney international recruitment with the selection of courses at UCF. I will be taking 4 courses over the 6 months. 2 start in october and 2 start in january. The courses are as follows:

Guest Service Management - This seminar is created to develop an appreciation for, and an understanding of, customer behavior in hospitality organizations. Since all managers in all organizations have internal and external guests or customers, the focus of this course is on how guests think, respond, and behave in response to organizational decisions. Guestology is the scientific study of guests needs, wants and behaviors.

Theme Park Management – A seminar designed to be an overview of the Theme Park and Attraction business. The program will explore the vast array of Parks that fall under this category so that by the completion the participant has a firm understanding of the for profit park system and the guest allure to them. By the end of the course we will be able to define and understand the concepts of themeing and identify the economic impact and tourism value that this industry brings to a community.

Hospitality Brand Management – The most important asset of a company is its reputation. This reputation embodies many things, including its name, the products it sells, the services it supplies to its customers, and its convenient locations. But there are many more, intangible things, which also build this reputation. All of these things, together, can be called the company’s Brand. How hospitality companies create, maintain, and occasionally destroy, their brand value will be the focus of this course.
At the seminar’s end students will have achieved an awareness of the importance of protecting a company’s brand equity. They will possess a set of skills intended to make them better prepared for a successful career in the corporate hospitality environment.

Food & Beverage Operations in the Hospitality Industry – The intent of this seminar is to provide the participant with a firm understanding of the contribution that food & beverage operations make to the hospitality industry. The scope of the lessons will include free standing restaurants, hotel food & beverage operations (including catering & banquets), as well as food & beverage operations in theme parks.

Information Technology and E-commerce in Hospitality and Tourism -- This course is designed to cover topics related to: (1) concepts of information systems in hospitality and tourism; (2) fundamental principles of communication networks in hospitality/tourism; (3) online consumer behavior and e-commerce in hospitality/tourism; and, (4) future direction of technology development and technology strategies in hospitality/tourism.

Leadership and Strategic Management -- This course focuses on principles of contemporary leadership and strategic management for hospitality and tourism organizations. It introduces leadership and strategic management concepts and perspectives into the hospitality and tourism field. The course particularly emphasizes the development of analytical, decision making, problem-solving and communication skills.

Event Management -- This course considers how organizations use events to achieve their strategic goals and objectives. It includes an introduction to the different types of organizations that produce events, the types of events that are held, the planning process, and evaluation tools. Also, students will learn about the businesses that provide facilities, goods, and services for events.

Survey of Wines of the World* -- This is a very interactive and great way to do something a little bit different!! A comprehensive study of wine for students that want to learn about using senses to evaluate wines, the methodology of tasting and evaluating wines, and growing, processing, and production of grape varieties used in making wine.
*Additional $100 lab fee

I had to email back with my top 6 choices which were:
1. Theme Park Management
2. Events Management
3. Guest Services Management
4. Leadership and Strategic Management
5. Food and Beverage operations in the hospitality industry
6. Information technology and e-commerce in hospitality and tourism

I really hope I get my top 3 choices but the others sound interesting too.

Anyway other than that i'm feeling much better now and worked today.

Not good :(

Yesterday was another busy day. It was really hot so the park was really busy. At midday we tried to balance and it went very wrong. I was counting the trolley but people kept coming in for change. This meant it went wrong. So when Karen came to ask if it balanced then I asked if I should start again. She said I don't think you are taking this seriously. Go to lunch. This really annoyed me because of course I take it seriously and to be fair I didn't know at the time how wrong we were. So I stormed out and went to lunch. I'm sure she probably thought that I was to blame for it being wrong. But when we came back from lunch she was back to being normal which I thought was really weird. So I was happy when me and Nicole went to do cash lifts. It was so nice to be out of the office. Anyway Una had called in sick so we were missing a person which didn't help.

Today I woke up at 3am with really swollen glands. I was worried that it was mumps but I don't think it is anymore. It was really painful and I couldn't eat. Luckily through the day my glands have gone down and i'm feeling better now. However I did find out that Una was fired today. Apparently her paperwork was illegal and she's not allowed to work in this country. It was a bit of a suprise and means that we will be one person short and very busy for the rest of august.

Busy today!

The past couple of days have been really nice and sunny so the park is very busy. Thursday was an OK day although I overheard Anitta moaning about Nicole behind her back which wasn't good especially as she is the team leader. Nicole was off that day so I let her know on Friday. We also had loads of coins delivered from the bank and had to put them all in the vault. There are very very heavy and my arms were aching afterwards. Una also hurt her back carrying them.

Friday was pretty normal except Virgin Radio were filming a live show in the dome. This didn't really make any difference to us though.

Today was a bit of a mess really. At least Anitta wasn't in charge. First the floats went a bit wrong and then one of the admissions pods got stuck. Also we didn't get the bags from admissions until really late so we rushed to put everything on the system. Also Una went home at midday because her back was hurting. So one less person to help. I think she will probably be off tomorrow because she looked in pain.

As for disney, I got my criminal background check back. Not very exciting but there no other news from disney. Hopefully I will get to book my visa appointment soon.

Madame Tussauds!

After 2 days of from work I was really excited about going to Madame Tussauds with everyone from work. So I walked to the train station which took longer than I thought it would so I missed the first train. It didn't really matter though because I got to Waterloo half an hour before everyone else. So once they arrive we got on the tube to madame tussauds. It was Nicoles first time in London and with it being rush hour she was not impressed. But once we got there it was so much fun. Me, Nicole and Robert went in their version of the big brother diary room. This was so much fun although really embarassing because they made us do the YMCA. There were lots of new wax works since I hadn't been for about 7 years. After that it was the torture/dungeon section. Most of us except Dhara and Robert went throught the live show which involved lots of people jumping out at us in a dark room and running after us. It was so scary but funny at the same time. I don't think I would go in there again. Then we went into the part which used to be the planetarium and now they show a little film which is meant for kids but was alright. After another room of waxworks we left and went to weatherspoons for some food. Then it was time to go home after a wonderful night.
